Ariana Grande's 'Positions' Is First Song to Simultaneously Debut Atop Both Billboard Global Charts - Billboard

The two charts (the latest of which are dated Nov. 7) premiered in September and rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The Billboard Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S.

Chart rankings are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts' calculations.

High 'Positions': Grande Tops Global 200, Combs Debuts at No. 4

Ariana Grande's "Positions" blasts onto the Billboard Global 200 chart at No. 1 with 98.4 million streams, the week's top total, and 44,000 downloads sold globally in the week ending Oct. 29.

Grande is the first female artist to top the Global 200 on her own, and the third overall, after Cardi B's "WAP," featuring Megan Thee Stallion, led for three weeks.

As previously reported, "Positions" bounds onto the U.S.-based Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1.

BTS' "Dynamite" drops to No. 2 on the Global 200, after three total weeks at No. 1, and 24kGoldn's "Mood," featuring iann dior, slips to No. 3 from its No. 2 peak.

Luke Combs' "Forever After All" arrives at No. 4 on the Global 200, with 34 million first-week streams and 59,000 sold, the week's top sum, worldwide in the tracking frame. The song, new at No. 2 on the Hot 100 and No. 1 on the U.S.-based Hot Country Songs chart, is the first country hit to make even the Global 200's top 40, let alone the top five.

Rounding out the Global 200's top five, Internet Money and Gunna's "Lemonade," featuring Don Toliver and NAV, slips to No. 5 from its No. 4 high.

Grande First U.S.-Born Artist to Top Global Excl. U.S. Chart

Ariana Grande's "Positions" likewise launches atop the Billboard Global Excl. chart, with 64.6 million streams and 16,000 downloads sold in territories outside the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 29.

"Positions" is the first song to debut atop the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts simultaneously. Plus, Grande, born in Boca Raton, Florida, is the first U.S.-born artist to lead the latter list. Over the chart's first seven weeks, acts from beyond the U.S. had monopolized the Global Excl. U.S. summit: South Korea's BTS and BLACKPINK and Colombia's Maluma.

BTS' "Dynamite" descends to No. 2 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart, after five weeks at No. 1; LiSA's "Homura" drops to No. 3 from its No. 2 high; 24kGoldn's "Mood," featuring iann dior, falls 3-4, after reaching No. 2; and Maluma's former one-week No. 1 "Hawái" backtracks 4-5.

Notably, Luke Combs' "Forever After All," new at No. 4 on the Global 200, debuts at No. 105 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart, with 5.3 million streams (of its 34 million globally) and 6,000 sold (of its 59,000 worldwide) from outside the U.S. The core country singer-songwriter and producer is from Charlotte, North Carolina.
