The Duchess of Cambridge recycled a classic red L.K. Bennett dress for a touching VE Day video call to war veterans with Prince William.

Kate, 38, looked patriotic in the £250 elegant scarlet Cayla gown, which she first wore to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in 2015.

This simple design features a chic boat neckline, with cropped sleeves and a beautiful fit and flare silhouette.

The A-line dress sold out within hours after Kate wore it to the tennis five years ago, which she attended with her husband.

Copy Kate in an L.K. Bennett midi dress

The Duchess of Cambridge was spotted on a video call alongside her husband this week.

The royal proved her savvy sartorial style, rewearing a gorgeous red midi dress from L.K. Bennett. We first spotted the elegant design on the royal at Wimbledon in 2015.

This simple design features a chic boat neckline, with cropped sleeves and a beautiful fit and flare silhouette.

While we sadly can't see what The Duchess wore on her feet this time round, back in 2015, she paired her dress with black court heels and a metallic clutch bag.

We'd wear ours with wedges and a denim jacket for a summer garden party, or add a cropped blazer and brogues for the office.

While the exact dress has now sold out online (that's the Kate effect, after all) you can shop more from the royal-approved label by clicking right.

Or, shop more from the trend with our lineup of lookalikes below. From New Look to Emilia Wickstead (another brand loved by The Duchess) there's something to suit every budget.

Back then she accessorised with Mirabelle Lolita earrings, court heels and a statement leopard print clutch bag by Diane von Furstenberg.

For the video call, Kate wore her glossy brunette locks in loose, bouncy waves around her shoulders and kept her make-up relatively natural, with a dusting of brown eye shadow and a nude lip.

L.K. Bennett is a firm high street favourite of the duchess, and the choice continued her trend of championing British brands from home since lockdown was imposed in March.

Speaking to FEMAIL, stylist Susie Hasler, who runs Styled by Susie, said the move is a way of showing her dedication to her royal duties and particularly poignant because of the strain on the fashion industry amid the pandemic.

'Kate flying the flag for British brands on her virtual calls throughout lockdown is incredibly significant,' she said.

'At a time when our clothing industry is being hit hard - with stores such as Warehouse and Oasis collapsing - the Duchess is showing her support for our country and economy.'

Earlier this week the duchess sported a yellow gown by Raey for an interview on This Morning about the launch of her community photography project Hold Still with the National Portrait Gallery, and a Tabitha Webb 70s inspired chevron jumper for a virtual call with midwives and new mothers on a maternity ward in Kingston.

Yesterday Prince William coordinated with his wife's red dress perfectly, donning a navy blue suit and tie with a light blue shirt for the video call to residents at a Royal British Legion care home in East Sussex.

The royal couple are currently residing at their Norfolk home Anmer Hall, where they have been isolating with their three children Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two.

During their conversation, Kate revealed their eldest two have been asked by their teachers to learn the lyrics to Dame Vera Lynn's We'll Meet Again.

She said: 'The school has set all the children a challenge and they're currently trying to learn the lyrics to the song We'll Meet Again... so it's been really lovely having that playing every day.'

The residents had started their VE Day celebrations early, and when the royal couple asked what they would do when the Covid-19 outbreak was over, the sprightly group said they would hold VC Day - 'Victory over Coronavirus'.

With a glass of bubbly nearby, Charles Ward, the oldest resident at Mais House, a Royal British Legion care home in Bexhill-on-Sea, joked about how he served tots of rum to fellow servicemen on VE Day.
