Idea to give service jobs
to grads is a win-win-win

Re: “Brooks: We need to expand national service, now” (Opinion section, May 10):

I have long favored this idea and now more than ever it seems ripe.

It’s win, win, win. Those graduating from high school or college with no current opportunity for job, college or other training take government-funded service jobs of limited duration while sorting out the economy and their personal lives.

Participants serve their country while gaining basic income and the opportunity to work in unexpected situations and locations. Years from now they may look back on this pandemic as a really rough time, but still value and be inspired by this service experience.

Please urge senators to support Delaware Sen. Chris Coons’ bill and similar programs. It’s definitely money well-spent.
