The track fails to beat a handful of unstoppable smashes from Olivia Rodrigo, and it almost matches their best placement, failing to do so by just one space.
The potential song of the summer is BTS’s fourth track to appear inside the top 10 on the Streaming Songs chart, which now stands as the most placements in the region among South Korean musicians. The septet breaks out of a tie with another one of the most successful figures from their home country with their latest smash.
Just last week, BTS were tied with Psy, as both had pushed three tracks into the top 10 on the Streaming Songs chart, but now the former has pulled ahead. BTS’s singles “Dynamite,” “Fake Love,” “Boy With Luv” and now “Butter” have all spent at least one frame somewhere between Nos. 1 and 10, with the first of those four titles rising the highest. Last year, “Dynamite” peaked at No. 3, and it still stands as the loftiest placement for a track promoted by a South Korean group.
Psy’s singles “Gangnam Style,” “Gentleman” and “Hangover” with Snoop Dogg all spent time inside the top 10 on the Streaming Songs ranking, with the first two going all the way to the summit. To this day, Psy remains the only South Korean star to hit No. 1 on the chart, though BTS have been trying to match his performance.
Just one other musical act from South Korea has broken into the Streaming Songs’ top 10, and they’ve only managed to do so once. Blackpink’s “Ice Cream,” a collaboration with Selena Gomez, rose all the way to No. 8, making them the only girl group from the Asian nation to accomplish this feat.
