Elon Musk’s Old Tesla Drive-in Restaurant Idea Might Actually Happen - Eater LA

kotortopo.blogspot.com

Remember that odd story about Tesla opening an “old-school drive-in, roller skates and rock restaurant at one of the new supercharger locations in Los Angeles?” The one that got a bunch of attention back in 2018 simply because Musk tweeted about it? Well, as it turns out, the restaurant might be real soon.

Truthfully, there hasn’t been much movement around Elon Musk’s idea in the past 36 months, besides hints that the project would be west of the 405. But then, just last week, the sometimes world’s richest man filed a trademark for just such a restaurant service, sparking renewed interest in the supercharger station and diner combo.

Elektrek reported Tesla’s filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office, which seeks to use its name and logo for “restaurant services;” the company also submitted new building applications this year. Back when Eater LA first reported on this story, the Tesla charging station/restaurant was bound for Santa Monica Boulevard and 14th Street in a former car dealer space, so there’s still a chance it comes true out that way. If completed, it would perhaps be the largest electric vehicle charging station in LA County.

In other news:

  • L.A. Taco editor Javier Cabral took Matty Matheson and music producer Benny Blanco on a local taco tour to favorites Mariscos El Faro and El Ruso, and by all accounts they had a blast.
  • Pasadena eatery Lucky Boy settled its lawsuit against Postmates for trademark infringement and unfair competition this week, reports LAist. The suit alleged that Postmates used Lucky Boy’s name without authorization and posted a menu with incorrect information for the diner, including lower prices. Lucky Boy settled with Postmates directly for an undisclosed amount.
  • Crosstown analyzed numbers from the LAPD and found that burglary, vandalism, and dine-and-dash customers at restaurants have increased over the past year, adding to the devastation faced by the industry during the global coronavirus pandemic.
  • Inside Hook labeled its six favorite new-ish restaurants, including Chifa (which opened last year), Daybird, and Playita Mariscos. The latter replaced the longstanding El Siete Mares on Sunset in Silver Lake.
  • Farm Cup, LA’s new vintage yellow parking coffee spot, opened this week. It’s got wheels, but — at least for now — is parked permanently in West Hollywood as part of a small marketplace of LGBTQ vendors. Aside from the horchata, they’ll use plant-based milks for all drinks.
