Welcome, everyone, to the weekly One Foot Down listicle! Each week on Friday, Pat Rick and I will alternate providing for you all a listicle of the greatest/top/best Notre Dame Fighting Irish-related things we can think of. They might be more serious, but mostly they will probably be wacky (what else would you honestly expect from the two of us?). We are AMPED to provide these for you each week.
PIZZA
This week, we’re focusing on pizza, which has produced some highly-contested debates on this site over the years. However, we’re not going to get into all of that much. This week, the Notre Dame Offensive Line was sponsored by Jet’s Pizza. This is after being sponsored by Mission BBQ in Mishawaka.
As a native Metro Detroiter, I am always PUMPED when Detroit-style pizza gets thrown some love (Rocco Spindler here knows all about how great it is). Jet’s is such a solid pizza chain, and it’s pretty damn good. There are also some great pizza options in South Bend whether they are chains or local establishments. However, we’re not going to get into that today. Today, we focus on ranking the pizza that you can buy within the campus limits of the University of Notre Dame (Eddy Street doesn’t count). I’m counting official retailers, not dorm pizza because I have not had them all (also Keough Kitch clearly would win, but I digress). So, buckle up.
We’re Ranking Campus Pizza
5. Pizza Pi
This is last for a few reasons. I’ve only been to this place once, and it was two summers ago. It was not great, and that is putting it nicely. It was like Chipotle for pizza or Wish.com Blaze Pizza. The quality was not great. Hopefully, it got better as they went through an academic year. Also, it is unclear if it is still open. It replaced Reckers (RIP Reckers and their food/pizza), and it is tough to follow that up even if it were decent.
4. Pizza Hut
There is a Taco Hut (combination Taco Bell and Pizza Hut) in the basement of LaFortune. To me, Pizza Hut pizza is serviceable. It’s by no means great, but it gets the job done when you’re really hungry.
3. Dining Halls
The pizza that is provided in the dining halls is not bad. It’s pretty middle of the road. It gets slightly better with make-your-own-pizza nights so that you can concoct one yourself. All in all, SDH or NDH pizza will be ok.
2. Rohr’s
Rohr’s always has some very solid food, especially this new and renovated Rohr’s. Rohr’s provides some flatbreads on their menu. I think people go either way on if those are sometimes “pizza” or not, but we’ll count them here. They make really food food, so some toppings on some bread are going to be pretty awesome.
- Modern Market
Modern Market is open in the Duncan Student Center, and has been for a few years now. They have AWESOME food - maybe more of an upscale Panera vibe. Their pizzas are fire, especially the Bacon Corn Pizza. I highly recommend this food and this pizza to anyone that will ever be on Notre Dame’s campus.
