With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania mainly taking place in the Quantum Realm, the MCU film offers a closer look at what it's all about and why Kang the Conqueror is so desperate to escape it.
Marvel Studios released the new trailer for the third installment in the Ant-Man film franchise, featuring Ant-Man and Wasp exploring the Quantum Realm and figuring out how to leave it. During the sneak peek, the titular superheroes encounter Kang who tells them, "It isn't what you think... it's a cage." Ant-Man and Kang then agree to help each other escape before Kang reveals his true colors, leading to an epic showdown between the supervillain and Scott Lang's alter-ego.
The mysterious nature of the Quantum Realm will be explored throughout Quantumania, with the film set to reveal why Kang languished in the walled city, why he's so eager to get away from it and why he can't escape on his own. The movie also sees Hope van Dyne warn Scott about Kang's true intentions as they face a fight for their lives within the realm. Kang is known for using his powers and technology to warp timelines in his quest to rule over time and space and achieve dominance over any universe.
The Story of Quantumania
Quantumania sees Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly return as Ant-Man and the Wasp while Jonathan Majors begins his MCU film run as Kang, previously appearing as Kang's multiversal variant He Who Remains in the Marvel series, Loki. The movie also stars The Good Place actor William Jackson Harper who plays a freedom fighter named Quaz who helps in the fight against Kang. Additionally, it introduces a live-action version of M.O.D.O.K. to the big screen, played by Corey Stoll.
Quantumania kicks off Phase 5 of the MCU, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and director Peyton Reed speaking to its importance, saying Ant-Man deserved the right to open the phase and suggesting the movie sees the superhero take on a more serious role than the previous two installments. Majors has also emphasized the power of the villain, revealing Kang will shake up the MCU as fans know it. The Creed III actor will reprise his role in the 2025 movie Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
The Ant-Man threequel will run for a slightly longer runtime than the previous two movies, delivering all its Quantum Realm adventures within two hours and five minutes. The film, also starring Bill Murray, Kathryn Newton and Tony McCarthy, is produced by Feige and Stephen Broussard while Jeff Loveness, who's previously worked on Rick and Morty and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, is the writer.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens in theaters on Feb. 17.
