Meghan Markle arrived in New York City over the weekend and is reportedly there for a baby shower thrown by her friends, according to E! News. Markle is expecting her first child with Prince Harry and is in her third trimester. The couple is expecting the baby in late April, People says.
We’re guessing Markle, a Los Angeles native, spent the weekend visiting old haunts and favorite spots from her days of The Tig, her lifestyle site.
What we do know is that after arriving in New York City, Markle went to Ladurée restaurant and bakery in the city’s SoHo neighborhood, a source told E! News.
Markle’s visit to the city garnered attention when an eye witness reported seeing her having lunch with a friend to Page Six and Harper’s Bazaar.
The shower has been planned for months
“The trip is a lovely chance to catch up with friends and spend time in a city she loves,” a source told Harper’s Bazaar. “This will be the last time a lot of them will see Meg until after the baby is born so it’s nice to share precious moments.”
Undoubtedly Markle’s life has become much busier since marrying into the British royal family. Her schedule will be even busier when the new baby arrives in April.
“It’s been a relaxing visit,” another source said. “Nothing beats face time with your friends. Meg will be flying home refreshed and relaxed — and with a lot of new baby clothes.” We’d love to see the baby clothes Markle receives from her friends but we’ll have to wait until the royal baby is worn to guess which outfits were gifts.
Markle’s BFF is hosting
One of Markle’s best friends, stylist Jessica Mulroney, is organizing the shower. We have no doubt the shower will be full of Markle’s favorite New York City eats. Mulroney and Markle grew extremely close when Markle was living in Canada filming the USA series, Suits.
She’s taken secret solo trips before
In August 2018, Markle took a commercial flight to visit Mulroney, her husband, and their children, at their home in Toronto, a place where Markle and Prince Harry are known to stay.
Mulroney’s children are close to Markle, so close they were in her wedding. When Markle and Prince Harry began dating, the two made a number of secret trips abroad to see each other. In 2017, Prince Harry made a secret trip to Toronto to visit Markle months before proposing.
Kensington Palace hasn’t commented on the visit
Markle’s trip to New York City has been so hush hush, Kensington Palace hasn’t commented on the visit. They declined to comment to E! News and no photos have been made public of Markle’s visit.
Markle’s friends spoke about her character
A handful of Markle’s friends spoke to People about her life before becoming a duchess. “From the outside, people want to paint a Cinderella story, but Meg had made her life quite amazing before this,” the source said.
“She worked hard and earned an amazing career; she did loads of charity and volunteer work; she had a successful lifestyle website [the Tig] with a staff who loved her; she had privacy and freedom, but the means to really enjoy her life and to share that success with her friends —which she always did.”
