Where Will Meghan Markle Deliver the Royal Baby? - The Cheat Sheet

The world is excitedly awaiting the birth of the new royal baby! With a few months to go before the arrival of baby Sussex, fans have been speculating about every aspect of the birth. Bets are on as to whether Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will welcome a boy or a girl, what the name will be, and who will (or will not) have the honor of being asked to be godparents to the newest member of the royal family.

The Duchess’ due date is quickly approaching, and everyone is still wondering about one important detail: Where will Meghan deliver her baby?

Where do the royals traditionally give birth to their babies?

In previous times, it used to be that royal babies were delivered at home. However, that tradition came to an end when Princess Diana gave birth to her and Prince Charles’ first son, William, at St. Mary’s hospital in Paddington, London. Since Diana reportedly had to be induced to bring on labor, a birth at Buckingham Palace was just not possible. Diana and Charles appeared on the steps of the exclusive Lindo Wing with the future King of England, introducing him to the public. Princess Anne chose to give birth to her children at the Lindo Wing as well.

Do the members of the royal family have to give birth at St. Mary’s hospital?

It doesn’t seem as if any royal parents are obligated to deliver their babies at St. Mary’s. Sarah Ferguson gave birth to her first daughter, Princess Beatrice, at The Portland Hospital for Women and Children, and to her second daughter, Princess Eugenie at the same place. Over the years, royal babies have been born at various locations, with Zara Tindall most recently delivering her daughter, Queen Elizabeth’s seventh great-grandchild at NHS Hospital’s Stroud Maternity Unit.

Where will Meghan deliver?

During her pregnancy, it was thought that the Duchess of Sussex would give birth at a hospital in Windsor, England, away from the busy city of London, and closer to the couple’s new home. At one point, fans also speculated that Meghan would choose to give birth in the United States, in her home state of California. However, with rumors that St. Mary’s hospital recently told their staff that no vacations would be permitted in late April and early May, fans are leaning toward the possibility that the new royal baby will be born at the Lindo Wing after all.

Is it official that Meghan will give birth at St. Mary’s hospital?

Until a formal announcement is made, it is still up in the air as to where the royal baby will be delivered. Meghan supposedly hired a doula in preparation for the birth of her and Harry’s first child, and fans are getting more excited as the time passes! If Meghan does choose St. Mary’s Hospital, she and Harry will likely debut their new son or daughter on the steps of the Lindo Wing, as William and Kate famously did three times.

Why is St. Mary’s popular?

St. Mary’s Hospital features the luxurious Lindo Wing, which is more like a hotel than a maternity ward! The rooms have high-speed internet access, televisions, and radio. They also accommodate new fathers quite nicely, offering comfortable reclining chairs for their relaxation and providing them with cozy blankets.

The best aspect of what they offer is probably the food, with new mothers receiving afternoon tea each day during their stay, as well as wine and champagne and deliciously prepared meals that are prepared by a chef and served by a waiter. Sounds like quite a nice experience!

No matter where Meghan chooses to give birth, fans around the world are on the edge of their seats waiting for the arrival of baby Sussex!
