**Netflix says 30.9 million accounts watched Murder Mystery in three days**

Netflix (NFLX) has just disclosed the viewership details of yet another piece of its original content. The video streaming giant’s Murder Mystery, which stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, has broken records.

Murder Mystery was watched by 30.9 million accounts within the first three days of its launch, Netflix announced in a tweet on June 18. Netflix usually counts a view if at least 70% of a movie is watched.

A substantial number of subscribers viewed the movie, considering it reached over one-fifth of global Netflix subscribers within three days of its launch. Nearly half of those views came from the US and Canada. This year, the streaming giant has started highlighting some of its most successful original content.

Netflix’s US subscriber numbers are plateauing

The company probably started sharing viewership counts to point out to investors that when its subscriber growth stalls, it can grow its revenue by increasing rates. The company’s increasing viewership shows that subscribers value its content, which means that they could be willing to pay a little more for their subscriptions.

Netflix added 1.74 million subscribers in the US during the first quarter even though it announced that it would be increasing its rates across all plans in the US. However, the company expects to add only 300,000 paid subscribers in the US during the current quarter, as its domestic market is reaching a saturation point.

Netflix may be able to retain its subscribers in the US in the long term despite upcoming stiff competition from Apple and other media companies, as Americans still love the company’s original content. According to a recent survey by Morgan Stanley, Netflix’s original programming was rated as the best original programming among over-the-top subscription and premium TV services.
