Blackpink’s New Music Video Officially Breaks The Record For The Most Views In 24 Hours On YouTube - Forbes

This past Friday (June 26), Blackpink finally returned from a longer-than-usual break with their first single (on their own), “How You Like That,” and fans wasted absolutely no time in buying it, streaming the tune and especially heading to YouTube to watch the colorful, lavish music video the group released alongside the track. Now, the video hosting site has made it official: the quartet has broken the record for the most views of one upload in a 24 hour period.

The site itself has confirmed via a statement shared with various media outlets that “How You Like It” racked up an incredible 86.3 million views in just the first day it was watchable. That’s a massive sum, and it far outpaces the previous record holder.

Before this week, the record for the most views of one video in 24 hours belonged to BTS and Halsey’s “Boy with Luv,” which was played 74.6 million times in the first day it was up. That means that Blackpink hasn’t just bested the previous high point, they’ve raised the bar by more than 10 million views.

Ever since the first 24 hours of “How You Like That” being out eclipsed, fans and various media outlets have been reporting several different figures, but it’s tough to look at the video’s view count and call that correct. In these instances, when high-profile artists are involved and the play numbers rise into the tens of millions, sometimes foul play is involved. These records aren’t certified until YouTube confirms them, as sometimes the platform has to weed out bad views, such as those that are fake and which were paid for.

“How You Like That” serves as the first taste of Blackpink’s forthcoming debut album, which should arrive this fall. The track is headed toward impressive debuts on charts all around the world, based solely on its performance on YouTube. Once first-week sales and streaming numbers are also tabulated, the cut could very well become the South Korean quartet’s biggest hit yet.
