The Paris Ritz hotel is one of the most luxurious and acclaimed hotels in the world, so when it auctioned off many of its famed luxury items last week, unsurprisingly the take up was extraordinary.
Historic crystal and silver tableware pieces were sold for $1.9 million, four times the pre-sale estimate, delighting auctioneers and buyers.
The online bidding saw 1,500 items sold including ashtrays, bathrobes and bed linen.

A 12-plate ‘Marthe service’ commissioned by Cesar Ritz in 1898 for the opening of the hotel was sold for 13,000 euros, 45 times the estimate.
Christofle serving trolley sales were popular and champagne buckets were a firm favourite selling for 11,700 euros, 58 times the auction estimate.
The Paris Ritz hotel is located on Place Vendome and has for decades attracted world leaders, icons of film and fashion as patrons.
The guest list includes Audrey Hepburn, Ernest Hemingway and notoriously Coco Chanel, who spent part of World War II tucked up at the hotel with a German spy who was also her lover.
The auction was originally scheduled for April but was rescheduled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
