Northern Arizona University received a grant to fund The Big IDEA (La Gran IDEA), a partnership with Universidad de Sonora (UNISON) addressing challenges of food security and financial security in the Arizona/Sonora Megaregion. Applications for the program open March 1.

In December, NAU’s Center for International Education and boundaryless@NAU were awarded $25,000 through the 100,000 Strong in America’s program to create a cross-border program with UNISON in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

The Big IDEA will allow 12 students from each university to collaborate on finding solutions to challenges related to financial inclusion and agriculture/food sustainability in a four-phase project. Students will work in six four-student teams alongside faculty advisers from both schools to create a product or service that addresses a specific issue affecting the region.

The program is open to undergraduate students regardless of major. For additional information, visit The Big IDEA (La Gran IDEA) webpage or contact boundaryless@NAU director Curtis Smith by emailing curtis.smith@nau.edu. Click here for the The Big IDEA application.
