One of the biggest offseason moves this summer was the Cleveland Cavaliers re-signing big man Jarrett Allen via five-year, $100 million extension. Even so, the Cavs drafted USC fellow big Evan Mobley with the third pick in the 2021 NBA Draft shortly prior to that.

Now on paper, you might think that Mobley and Allen are the same type of player. They are both near 7-foot tall (Allen is listed at 6-foot-11) and are good rim protectors. They also both move very well for how big they are. However, with that being said, there are a lot of differences between the two players.

On the offensive end, they are different players. Mobley’s game can go from the rim to outside the three-point line. For Allen, he’s looking to stay on the block/inside as a rolling presence.

On the defensive side, most pundits would say that Allen is your typical NBA rim protector. In his NBA career thus far, Allen blocks a shot and a half per game. Mobley is also a great rim protector, blocking nearly three shots per game at USC. But, Mobley is also very mobile on defense. It’s possible that by the end of his rookie season, he could be able to guard every position on the court.

While both are similar, they are different players. Let’s take a look at some of their strengths and weaknesses, and how they can complement each other.

We’ll examine how they could coexist, in relation to both ends of the floor for the Cavs.

Firstly, one wrinkle on the offensive end jumps out for this young big man duo.
