Britney Spears’ manager Larry Rudolph said the pop star may never perform live again in a new interview with TMZ.
“As the person who guides her career — based on the information I and all of the professionals who work with her are being told on a need-to-know basis — from what I have gathered it’s clear to me she should not be going back to do this Vegas residency, not in the near future and possibly never again,” Rudolph said.
Rudolph’s assertion comes days after Spears appeared in court to speak with the judge overseeing her decade-long conservatorship. In 2008, Spears’ father, Jamie, was named the singer’s conservator, giving him control of nearly all of her business and personal affairs. But recently, he has come under public scrutiny, with Spears herself hinting about a release from the arrangement on social media.
It is unknown what was said during last Friday’s court hearing, though the judge reportedly ordered Spears to undergo a 730 expert evaluation, a competence examination typically given to children in divorce cases.
As Spears’ manager, Rudolph is not involved in any way with her conservatorship. Still, he acknowledged the various medical and mental health issues that have reportedly been plaguing Spears since she postponed her Las Vegas residency in January after her father fell ill. More recently, Spears spent a month in a mental health facility.
“It was the perfect storm,” Rudolph said. “We had to pull her show because her meds stopped working and she was distraught over her dad’s illness.” Rudolph added that last summer Spears had been eager to tour, but said he hasn’t heard from the singer in months. “She clearly doesn’t want to perform now,” he said.
Rudolph said he did not know when Spears would want to work again, but said, “I don’t want her to work again ’till she’s ready, physically, mentally and passionately. If that time never comes again it will never come again. I have no desire or ability to make her work again. I am only here for her when she wants to work. And, if she ever does want to work again, I’m here to tell her if it’s a good idea or a bad idea.”
