Sibling Squabbles like Prince Harry and Prince William's are as Royal as a Crown - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

All siblings have disagreements, otherwise known as ‘squabbles’ or ‘rows’ by the royals. Some sibling rivalry is only natural, while others are pitted against each other by some circumstance or person that comes between them. Some last minutes while others last decades. For the royal family, these squabbles are as royal as a crown and go back generations, even for the in-laws. 

Even the queen and her sister, Princess Margaret, have had their share of rows. Margaret was known for her independent streak and often tested Queen Elizabeth during her reign with her rebellious ways. Princess Anne, the Queen’s daughter, seems to have gotten a bit of that independent streak, and while she’s one of the hardest-working royals, she also is good at causing a tiff here and there in her family. But it’s the current siblings of the royal family that give the juiciest shows.

The heirs: Prince Charles and Prince Andrew

It’s no surprise that the two princes have had their squabbles. Charles is a bit more serious with his duties as the current heir in line to the throne, while his brother Andrew has made some rather embarrassing choices. He has been connected to Jeffrey Epstein and has a unique relationship with his ex-wife, Sarah.

Andrew resents Charles because he has worked to cut Andrew out of the inner circle and downgraded his daughters to non-full-time royals and removing their police protection (although this is changing now that Prince Harry and Meghan have stepped down). Charles also excluded his brother from the 2012 balcony appearance after the Diamond Jubilee, which wasn’t the first or the last time he’s left Andrew out. 

The cousins that became in-laws: Diana and Sarah

While Sarah, or Fergie, has told the media repeatedly that her rivalry with Princess Diana was not true, the two have a long history. They are actually fourth-cousins who both married into the royal family. Diana supposedly invited Fergie to her wedding, but not the post-ceremony reception. And while Diana was very helpful in Fergie’s acclimation into the royal family, she did resent her for fitting in better than she did. They would go on to help each other through their mutual divorces, but Fergie was apparently not close to Diana in her last days. 

The Duchesses: Kate and Meghan

Whether you choose to believe the media or not, reports have swirled around the relationship between the duchesses and just how well they get along. While their squabbles began as early as 2016 when Prince Harry began seeing Meghan, the stress of Meghan’s wedding made it worse. There were reports that Meghan made Kate cry during a dress fitting for Charlotte.

Ultimately, the two are very different people, which even the palace admits. Even the media treats them vastly different. Fortunately, the two are still said to respect each other, and the new distance may help.

The brothers: Prince Harry and Prince William

It may be because of Harry’s relationship with Meghan that the feud came to light, but these brothers obviously had some tension before that. They were once very close, but when William urged Harry to take some time before moving forward with Meghan, Harry wasn’t happy. Then came the move out of their shared palace and the dissolved joint foundation efforts. It was only when dad Charles stepped in that things were somewhat resolved.

Things seemed to be better, but with the withdrawal of Harry from the royal family, the rift expanded. There is undoubtedly tension that remains visible when they are together in public. Luckily, the opposite seems to have happened. Ultimately, the two brothers are also very different, but eventually, Harry will answer to William when he becomes King. That should make things interesting and be the real test of their relationship. 

Royal feuds are everywhere

Of course, there are plenty of royal feuds that aren’t sibling-based, but the biggest clashes that get attention are usually between siblings. Let’s hope that the newest royal siblings fare a bit better when it comes to their relationships.
