Taylor Swift Shared the Meaning of "It's Time to Go" Amid *Those* Karlie Kloss Speculations - Cosmopolitan.com

  • Earlier this week, Taylor Swift fans speculated that Taylor’s new song “It’s Time to Go” is about Karlie Kloss.
  • Taylor kiiinda addressed the drama on Instagram.

It’s been a while since Taylor Swift’s now-extinct squad has been in full force, but Swifties have recently been wondering what happened between Taylor and one of her squad’s key members: top model Karlie Kloss. Karlie and Taylor used to be thick as thieves, but by 2019, it seemed like their friendship fizzled out—as a result, fans are now thinking Taylor took a dig at Karlie on her recent Evermore bonus track “It’s Time to Go.”

The lyrics that had fans speculating about a Taylor and Karlie falling-out are pretty unmistakable. In the song, Taylor sings, “When the words of a sister come back in whispers that prove she was not, in fact, what she seemed / Not a twin from your dreams, she’s a crook who was caught.” As you can see, the resemblance between Taylor and Karlie is fully there:

Taylor set the records straight on those rumors though. (Well, kinda.) On her Instagram, Taylor wrote about the deluxe tracks on her record and said “It’s Time to Go” is about leaving something that no longer serves you. The post, in full:

“The Evermore deluxe album with two bonus tracks, ‘Right Where You Left Me’ and ‘It’s Time to Go,’ is now available! The first is a song about a girl who stayed forever in the exact spot where her heart was broken, completely frozen in time. ‘It’s Time to Go’ is about listening to your gut when it tells you to leave. How you always know before you know, you know?”

Taylor hasn’t addressed any Karlie rumors, but in a personal essay written for Elle titled “30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30,” she basically said that some connections aren’t meant to last forever. “It’s sad but sometimes when you grow, you outgrow relationships. You may leave behind friendships along the way, but you’ll always keep the memories,” she wrote in March 2019.

In the great words of that iconic Tootsie Pop commercial, the world may never know (what happened to Taylor and Karlie’s friendship).
