Just a short time ago, Billboard revealed the top 10 best-performing songs in America this week on a chart that will be published in full tomorrow morning (August 3). The Hot 100 is set to be dominated once again by BTS, even though the group faced tough competition from one of the most talked-about musicians in hip-hop today. By holding on and remaining at No. 1, the South Korean superstars see their current chart-topper break out of an important tie and prove its unstoppable popularity in one more way.
BTS’s “Butter” is a non-mover atop the Hot 100 this week, earning its ninth stay in the penthouse by refusing to budge. With nine weeks in charge of the most important songs ranking in the U.S., “Butter” now stands as the longest-running No. 1 hit of the year in America. Last frame, the summery tune was on the same level as Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” with eight frames spent in charge apiece. Now, BTS have pulled ahead of the teen sensation and her debut single for good.
“Butter” is the longest-running No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 since Roddy Ricch’s “The Box,” which managed to rule the all-encompassing and highly competitive chart for 11 weeks in 2020.
BTS have now claimed the top spot on the Hot 100 for 10 weeks with two different rulers, though “Butter” is responsible for the vast majority of their time in the spotlight in 2021. As “Butter” was going strong at No. 1, BTS replaced themselves on the throne with their standalone single “Permission to Dance,” which also kicked off its time on the tally in first place. After just one turn as high as a cut can climb, that song swapped positions with “Butter,” which has now been running the show for two more periods.
This time around, “Butter” faced some real competition for the highest space on the Hot 100 from new release “Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow. The single, taken from the former’s upcoming debut album, starts off at No. 2, unable to beat the South Korean powerhouses to the summit, at least at first.
BTS and Lil Nas X both claim two spots inside the top 10 on the Hot 100 thid week, standing out from all the other musicians who find space in the region. The K-pop act’s “Permission to Dance” dips slightly to No. 9, while Lil Nas X’s other smash “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” finds a home at No. 8.
