Aespa Member Giselle Apologizes for Mouthing a Racial Slur - Teen Vogue

Aespa member Giselle has apologized for mouthing the n-word in a new behind-the-scenes clip.

Over the weekend, a clip surfaced online that showed three members of aespa — Giselle, Karina, and Ningning — dancing to SZA’s “Love Galore” as it plays in the background while they are on set. The clip was part of a behind-the-scenes video of the shooting of Savage, aespa’s debut EP which was released on October 5.

Fans noticed that in the clip, Giselle leans into the camera to lip-sync the n-word while all three vibe to the song. The original video has since been deleted or made private by SM Entertainment but the clip had already spread across various social media platforms. During the weekend, Giselle’s name was trending on Twitter because of it, with many fans asking for an apology and that the situation be addressed.

Seeing the reaction, on October 25, Giselle took to aespa’s official Twitter account to pen her apology. “I would like to apologize for mouthing the wrongful word from the lyrics of the song that was playing on-site. I had no intentions of doing it with any purpose and got carried away when one of my favorite artist's song was played. I sincerely apologize,” her apology reads. “I will continue to learn and be more conscious of my actions,” she added in a follow-up tweet.
