MSU held to just one touchdown Saturday
In A Nutshell
The Murray State football team had no answer for Austin Peay Saturday, as the Govs cruised to a 47-6 win at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Kentucky.
Fast Facts
- The crowd of 10,023 Saturday is the largest homecoming attendance for the Racers since the year 2000, when 11,276 saw Murray State take on Tennessee Tech. The game also marked the first time since Family Weekend of 2019 that Racers eclipsed the 10,000-person mark.
- The Racers could simply not get their offense going in the contest. They were outgained in the game by 208 yards (497-289), had three less first downs (22-19) than the Govs, were just 3-for-12 on third down and were 0-for-3 on fourth downs. Conversely, Austin Peay was 7-for-16 on third downs Saturday and were 3-for-4 on fourth downs.
- Murray State had no answer for the Gov's dual threat rushing attack of Ahmaad Tanner and Brian Snead Saturday. Tanner rushed for a game-high of 148 yards on 20 carries with three touchdowns, while Snead rushed for 132 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns.
Recap
Austin Peay scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and never looked back. Murray State finally got on the board with less than a minute before halftime with a two-yard pass from DJ Williams to Jake Saathoff, to cut the lead to 19-6. However, that marked the last score of the day for Murray State as Austin Peay outscored the Racers, 28-0, in the second half en route to a 47-6 victory.
Williams was 18-for-31 for 140 yards in the game with one touchdown and one interception, while adding 75 yards on 12 carries on the ground. Defensively, Lawaun Powell led the way for MSU with 13 tackles including eight solo stops, while Quinaz Turner had eight tackles, all solo stops, and two tackles for loss.
Next Game
The Racers will look to get back on track next week when they take on Tennessee State at Nissan Stadium in Nashville at 5 p.m.
