BTS And Coldplay Debut Their Massive New Single ‘My Universe’ At No. 1 On The Hot 100 - Forbes

For the third time this year, BTS debut a new single as high as a title can climb on the Hot 100, and this time, they’re not alone. The band appears at No. 1 on the chart alongside Coldplay, who actually fronts “My Universe,” and both acts land another leader as their collaborative smash opens as the most-consumed track in the U.S.

“My Universe” starts off atop the Hot 100 thanks to 127,000 pure purchases, 11.5 million plays on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music as well as 5.5 million audience impressions at radio. While the airborne hit is off to a fair start on streaming sites and radio, its sales that propelled it to the summit of the most competitive songs ranking in America.

During the title’s first seven days of availability, five different versions of “My Universe” were made available, and all of them sold well. In fact, there were times when all the options appeared inside the top 20 on the U.S. iTunes charts, proving that fans were willing to buy them all in large quantities.

BTS collect their sixth Hot 100 No. 1 with “My Universe,” and their third of 2021. The South Korean band first reached the loftiest position on the roster last year when “Dynamite” started its time on the tally at the peak. Not long after they made history by debuting at No. 1, the group joined Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685 on "Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat),” which bolted to the penthouse after the septet hopped on board a remix. Before 2020 wrapped, they were back in charge of the list with their own “Life Goes On.”

So far in 2021, BTS have debuted three songs at No. 1, starting wirth “Butter.” That single ran the show for 10 nonconsecutive weeks, with the band’s other smash “Permission to Dance” replacing it atop the tally for one frame.

BTS have now appeared inside the top 10 on the Hot 100 with nine songs, and they up their total placements anywhere on the chart to 23.

Coldplay earns their second-ever ruler with “My Universe,” and their first in more than a decade. The group’s “Viva La Vida” topped the Hot 100 back in 2008. This latest hit is their fifth top 10 on the ranking and, coincidentally, also their twenty-third appearance overall.

“My Universe” powers Coldplay’s upcoming album Music of the Spheres, due in mid-October. The track serves as the second official single from the project, and it easily outperforms the first tune released, “Higher Power,” which rose as high as No. 53 on the Hot 100 earlier in 2021.
