BTS Extend Their Lead Over Everyone Else As ‘My Universe’ Is Named The No. 1 Song In The World - Forbes

It hasn’t been very long since BTS last ruled over the Billboard Global 200, but they’re already back with yet another champion. The South Korean band joins Coldplay at No. 1 on Billboard’s weekly ranking of the most popular songs in the world with the joint smash “My Universe,” which debuts in first place with a massive first frame of activity.

“My Universe” marks the first champion on the Billboard Global 200 for Coldplay, but BTS are very familiar with what it feels like to run the show. In fact, with another ruler featured in their discography, the band extends their lead as the act with the most No. 1s in the chart’s short history.

BTS have now sent half a dozen tunes to the top spot on the Billboard Global 200, and they never wait very long between leaders. The septet first conquered the tally last fall with “Dynamite,” which became the second-ever No. 1 on the list, which had launched less than one month prior. The group also scored the third champion on the tally as a featured guest on "Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat),” which was fronted by Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685.

Before 2020 concluded, BTS earned a third No. 1 with the Korean-language “Life Goes On.”

In 2021, BTS have now doubled their total number of rulers on the Billboard Global 200, going from three to six champions in just a matter of months. So far this year, the South Korean powerhouses have debuted their own smashes “Butter” and “Permission to Dance” as high as a title can climb, and now “My Universe” makes it a pretty trio.

At this point, no other artist has managed three No. 1 hits on the Billboard Global 200, so BTS’s lead is safe. Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Olivia Rodrigo have all thus far accrued a pair of winners apiece.

In addition to their six No. 1 successes, BTS have also sent another two singles into the top 10 on the Billboard Global 200, upping their total to eight placements in the competitive region. That’s one of the largest sums among all acts, though they do still lag behind names like Drake, who has now appeared inside the area with 13 songs.

Coldplay collects their first No. 1 and their debut top 10 on the Billboard Global 200 with “My Universe,” aided in their win by the inclusion of BTS. Before this week, the British quartet had only risen as high as No. 24 with their recent single “Higher Power,” which is also taken from their upcoming album Music of the Spheres.
