Jennifer Lawrence is an Academy Award-winning actress, a mom, a wife — and now, she’s Hot Ones‘ latest victim. During the newest installment of the YouTube series — where host Sean Evans interviews celebrities while they attempt to eat increasingly spicy levels of hot chicken wings — Lawrence breaks down sobbing when the taste becomes just a little too painful for her to bear.
While promoting her new film No Hard Feelings, Lawrence reveals at the start of the 23-minute episode that she’s going into the challenge “humble” and that she doesn’t have “that high of a pain tolerance.”
“We’ve never had a woman tap out on this history of the show,” Evans tells her, prompting even more incentive to get through all 10 levels of spice.
Lawrence has a smooth start as she gets through the first seven flavors unscathed — but things take a turn as Evans apologizes in advance for what his guest is about to experience with the eighth chicken wing, which he refers to as the “bomb beyond insanity.”
Upon taking her first bite, Lawrence immediately says, “Oh, good heavens. Oh, my god,” before tears begin rolling down her cheeks.
“Oh, my god, I’m panicking. I’m really panicking. Oh, my god,” she sobs as she reaches for the pitcher of water and gulps it down. “I saw someone do that on the show. I get the instinct because it just seems like there’s more ice.”
When she expresses concern over the fact that there are still two more wings to get through, Evans tells her that she had just eaten the “hottest most disgusting hot sauce in the world” and assures her that the “worst is over.”
However, the pain is far from over for the actress — who powers through the interview with crying eyes, a dripping nose and frequent sips from all the spice relievers on the table.
“I don’t know what to [do]! Nothing helps! I’m drooling so much! Is my face OK?” she asks, turning to her team. When she takes a bite of her ninth chicken wing, Lawrence — still reeling from the previous one — exclaims, “I feel like I’m gonna die! Have you ever had anybody act like this?”
While Evans says he’s “always seen something crazier,” he points out that the most recent piece of chicken wasn’t nearly as bad as “the bomb.”
“Thank you for warning me. But I guess, fuck you for having it here?” Lawrence jokes. “I haven’t recovered. It’s not getting better.”
Eventually, Lawrence gets through all 10 wings — and, despite what she thought earlier in the segment, she’s living to tell the tale!
