Korean restaurant Mosu, headed by chef Sung Anh and with a branch in Hong Kong at M+ museum, won the Chef’s Choice award, drawing a huge round of applause from the room, especially from his fellow Koreans that were present.

The three-Michelin-star restaurant in Seoul, South Korea, is currently closed pending its relocation and will open in the same neighbourhood by summer, the chef shares.

“I’m speechless,” Anh says of his award. “To explain the feeling that I’ve been voted by chefs around the world, we forget that this is a community.

“We all have the same goal and for them to vote for me and write my name down when they think of who is respected - that is such an honour.”

Anh also added that while host country South Korea did not have any restaurants in the top ten, he did not see this negatively.

“We don’t see that as a problem. We see that as a chance to make this dining scene better, so that more people from foreign countries can come to Korea and discover our cuisine.”

The Best Sommelier Award went to Kevin Lu of Logy, who joined the Taipei restaurant in 2022.

Tokyo-based Mineko Kato received the award for best pastry chef for her artful vegan and plant-based desserts at Faro restaurant.
