From the second NewJeans stepped onstage at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards on Wednesday night (March 6), the crowd erupted with cheers for the five-piece girl group. As expected, Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein lived up to the hype as they performed a mash-up of “ETA” and their viral hit “Super Shy.”
In the schoolyard-inspired performance, the group delivered flawless choreography to “Super Shy” dressed in plaid uniforms, while their dancers acted as cheerleaders surrounding them. For “ETA,” the fivesome took the stage alone, once more bringing the energy as the audience sang along.
Following their performance, NewJeans accepted the award for Group of the Year from country superstar Lainey Wilson. “To be here today celebrating Women’s History Month and to participate in an awards show that’s overflowing with such amazing artists is so surreal and it’s hard to believe we’re in the same room as you all,” NewJeans member Hanni said during the acceptance speech. “I’d like to thank all the artists that are here because without your music, I don’t think we would have been able to grow up so inspired. Our love and passion for music has grown so much, thanks to you all.”
She continued, “Thank you to Billboard for inviting us here today and giving us the Group of the Year award. To be part of the music industry today is something we really don’t take for granted, and it wouldn’t have been possible without a lot of help from people and all the support we received.”
Danielle echoed Hanni’s sentiments. “Reflecting back on the past two years, we’ve been so incredibly blessed. We got to experience so many new and exciting things. It’s just been the best year,” she shared with the crowd. “All of these things wouldn’t be possible without you guys, Bunnies! Also, our family, our friends, our CEO and, of course, each other.”
She added, “We are so grateful to be in a room with so many amazing artists that we look up to, and we will try our hardest to learn from our mistakes, grow as a group and just keep pushing forward. We would like to continue to share our love for music with all of you, so we hope you have an amazing night.”
