BLACKPINK Talk New Netflix Documentary and Achieving Their Dreams - Teen Vogue

TV: The documentary dove into some scenes where y’all talked about harsh feedback after performances. What were some ways you overcame days like those? If you’re having a challenging studio session or performance, what are some ways you move forward?

Rosé: I mean, yes, sometimes people can be harsh on us, so we also do understand that we’re trying to juggle a lot of things at once. So we try to not be too harsh on ourselves a lot of times, and we encourage each other. If anybody’s feeling a little down because of a comment or whatnot we’re always there to remind each other that we’re all trying our best and it doesn’t really matter about one performance or one mistake we’ve made, it’s more of the overall outcome that we’re striving for. Being supportive is the best way to kind of get through those times.

Jennie: As long as we have each other supporting each other’s back, it’s much easier. Regarding the studio session, we just enjoy the process in the studio so much that it never really felt like work for us. If there’s a tip for it, make fun of each other, just have fun, make the time enjoyable while you’re there.

TV: Part of the point of music documentaries is to show this gap between what we see on stage and in photos and on social media, and what an artist is really like. Is it jarring for you to experience that difference between these personas or see it on screen? How do you transition to a performing or interviewing mindset compared to your daily life?

Rosé: I think we were very trained for that aspect, because as trainees we would always be continuously preparing performances. Once a month we had a test, every week we had to do a video exam and everything so we were very trained to kind of switch on and off offstage and on. I think we’ve all got that kind of instinct in us, if we get on stage all four of us, like our aura just kind of switches. I feel like every performer has that side to them, and I see that in all of my other members, too, and I respect that part of each and every one of us.

Jennie: In our documentary we try to portray that type of environment and situations so you guys can kind of understand what goes behind actual stages. So it’ll be really fun for our fans to watch the documentary and kind of see what’s been going on.

TV: What would be one piece of advice each of you’d give to someone following their dreams? What do each of you wish you’d known as your younger self getting into this business?

Jisoo: I just want to say, don’t be afraid, believe in yourself, whatever comes your way you have to experience it to really know what that is. So if you have too much fear inside you may let go of certain opportunities or chances, so trust in yourself and stick with it.

Jennie: I would like to say every moment counts for you, so make the time that you spend for your dreams a very special moment, make sure that you do something that you’ll be happy with when you go back and look at yourself. Also enjoy and don’t feel like everything is rushing up to you or like anything is not going for you, there’s always a timing for each and every person so as long as you have that will inside and stay positive and stay healthy, I think anybody can get there.

Rosé: I personally feel like if I were to talk to myself when I was a trainee I’d like to tell myself that every minute of me dreaming and enjoying what I do is all investment in what I’m doing for the future. I’d tell myself to not feel pressure about time, that every moment you invest on watching, exploring, studying and enjoying what you love to do, that all becomes part of becoming what you want to be.

Lisa: What I would like to say is make sure you know what you really want to do and do it. And also I want to say, if not now then when? I think it’s important to know what you want to do and push forth with it.
