SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College men's basketball team led for more than three-quarters of the game, but Skidmore College outscored Union by 13 points in the second half to steal away a 70-67 victory in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Mike Manley posted his first career double-double with a team-high 18 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Sean Regis earned the start and went for a career-high 15 points in 32 minutes of action. Classmate and brother Justin Regis also played well, just missing a double-double with nine points and a career-best 11 rebounds in addition to a team-best six assists.

The Dutchmen never trailed in the first half, following threes by Manley and S. Regis to start off the contest. A 13-0 run in the span of 4:26 gave Union a 21-5 lead 8:30 into the period, helped by a pair of threes from senior Chris Lovisolo and five points from Manley. The lead increased to 18 (27-9) with 8:37 left following back-to-back layups from junior Connor Cepiel and senior Temi George. A 13-0 run got Skidmore back in the game, but the Dutchmen outscored the Thoroughbreds 15-10 over the final 5:27 to take a 42-32 lead into halftime.

Union shot an even 50.0 percent (15 of 30) from the field in the opening half, including a 6-of-12 effort from beyond the arc, and also hit 6-of-7 free throws. Skidmore, meanwhile, hit at just a 28.6 percent (10 of 35) clip from the field.

Skidmore battled back but Union remained in front until Tautvydas Kupstas hit a jumper with 7:19 remaining to give the home team its first lead of the night. That bucket came in the middle of an extended 10-2 run over more than five minutes that put the Thoroughbreds ahead 64-59 with two minutes remaining.

Sean.Regis got the visitors back within a possession at 64-62 by sinking a big three-pointer with 1:12 on the clock, and brother Justin.Regis followed soon after with a key layup and then a clutch three that made it a one-point game (68-67) with 26 ticks left. Union had two chances to tie or take the lead after Skidmore made 1-of-2 shots from the line, but neither shot fell and the Dutchmen never had another look at the rim.

The Dutchmen cooled off in the second half, hitting 10-of-37 shots to finish the game at 37.3 percent (25 of 67). Skidmore ended the afternoon shooting 35.8 percent (24 of 67) from the floor, but got to the free-throw line 25 times and made 19 to secure the win.

Union will play three home games in each of the next two weeks, beginning a very busy stretch on Tuesday against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 7:30 p.m. at Viniar Athletic Center.
