Coachella headliner Harry Styles to perform new single 'As It Was' at festival, the 'perfect ... first moment for it' - Desert Sun

Coachella headliner Harry Styles released his first single from his upcoming album "Harry's House" on Thursday, which will get its debut live performance at the two-weekend festival.

Styles' single "As It Was," which also has an accompanying music video, creates a bouncy feel with its infectious synth (similar to A-ha's "Take On Me") and drum beat, while also diving into some of his struggles with love and fame.

"Answer the phone/'Harry, you’re no good alone/Why are you sitting at home on the floor?/What kind of pills are you on?'" Styles sings.

The former One Direction band member said during an interview with Audacy's Bru that the song reflects metamorphosis and embracing change, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think for me it kind of felt like it was very much an instinctual thing of what felt like the kind of thing I wanted to put out after a couple years," Styles said. "And obviously, after everything that’s happened over the last two and half, three years, I think the sentiment of 'it’s not the same as it was' felt pretty perfect.”

"Harry's House," Styles' third studio album, will be released May 20.

The Grammy-winning singer also confirmed that he will be performing the single at Coachella. He will be the headlining act on April 15 and 22.

"It's pretty funny, I think, the idea that the first place you play something is to that many people," he said. "I'm really excited about it, and I think it's going to be the perfect, kind of, first moment for it."

The two-weekend festival will return April 15-17 and April 22-24 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio for the first time in three years. Styles said he feels "very lucky to be able to open it back up and I think it's going to be fun."

He previously stopped by Coachella once to see rapper and producer Pharrell perform.

As one of the big names performing, Styles is looking forward to enjoying the moment with his fans.

"Performing has always been my favorite part of working in music, and I feel very lucky to get to do this for people who've been waiting to go to a festival for a couple of years," he said. "I'm just going to try to have as much fun as possible and hope that everyone else has that as well."

Other Coachella headliners include Billie Eilish, hot off her Academy Award win for best original song for "No Time to Die," and Ye (Kanye West).

Other performers on the lineup include Louis the Child, Big Sean, Flume, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Maggie Rogers, Carly Rae Jepsen and Danny Elfman.
