They’re the Guardians of the Galaxy, and they’re set to return to the MCU for a third movie very soon. The Guardians of the Galaxy exploded into pop culture fandom thanks to the craft of James Gunn and Marvel Studios. Fans eagerly anticipate seeing their favorite characters again for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the most recent Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer shows off some new faces.
With the MCU growing across every new movie and show, it’s no surprise that some characters may be a little less well-known than others. Guardians of the GalaxyVolume3 shows off a new range of characters yet to see a depiction in the MCU. Some faces could spell good, and some spell bad, or, maybe, a little bit of both.
1/13 Star-Lord
Perhaps the face of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill may have fought for the title of team leader, but he certainly deserves it. Star-Lord returns in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and it seems that his quest to find Gamora is not over.
Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord character brought a lot of humor and heart to the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and as the lead, he certainly proves that he is a fitting action man to form a family with this group of misfits.
2/13 Lady Lylla
One of the more shocking revelations in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer is when Rocket Raccoon hugs an otter. This sapient otter appears to be none other than Lylla, who, in Marvel Comics, is Rocket Raccoon’s soulmate from Halfworld.
Halfworld has familiar residents like Rocket Raccoon and Lylla, so perhaps the trailer indicates that Rocket is going back here to discover his past, and reunite with his love.
3/13 Adam Warlock
It’s a shame that Adam Warlock has only just been introduced to the MCU with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but it’s better late than never. Adam Warlock is an important character in the grand scheme of Marvel Comics and has been a long-standing character for Guardians of the Galaxy, and the cosmic side of Marvel.
Adam Warlock usually has ties with Thanos and the Infinity Stones, but considering that storyline has been wrapped up in the MCU, it seems that Adam Warlock’s role will be spent as a creation, hunting down the Guardians of the Galaxy, making him a grave threat for the galaxy’s group of a-holes.
4/13 Gamora
Death can’t stop the deadliest assassin in the galaxy, especially when time travel is involved. Gamora has not been seen since Avengers: Endgame and this Gamora is a long way from what she knows. The living Gamora is from the past before she met Peter Quill and joined the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Gamora is bound to play an important role in Guardians of the GalaxyVol.3, as she has yet to meet the Guardians, including her sister, and her future (now dead) self’s boyfriend. Fans are hoping that Gamora and Star-Lord can find love together again, as their goodbye was emotional, and they deserve happiness.
5/13 Drax
The Guardians of the Galaxy would not be the same without Drax. This near-invulnerable man loves fighting and stabbing things as much as he loves eating snacks whilst pretending to be invisible. He’s barely literate and doesn’t exactly understand metaphors, but that doesn’t mean his social skills will get in the way of his desire for a fight, or his friends.
Drax returns in Guardians of the GalaxyVol.3, and the extent of his role is unknown. However, he is seen with the Guardians for the majority of the Guardians of the GalaxyVol.3 trailers, and so hopefully his adventures remain long and full of laughs.
6/13 Mantis
Yet another member of the Guardians of the Galaxy crew returns for the sequel. Mantis was the daughter of Ego and is the half-brother of Peter Quill. Her arrival in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 made for plenty of laughs, but emotional gems for Mantis to truly shine.
Recently, Mantis received the spotlight with the Guardians of the GalaxyHoliday Special on Disney Plus, and hopefully, Guardians of the GalaxyVol.3 gives more light and love to the wholesome and powerful character.
7/13 High Evolutionary
As the big bad for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the High Evolutionary is set to cause quite the stir in the cosmic side of things for the Marvel Universe. The High Evolutionary is quite the strange villain but perfectly fits in with the weirdness and wonderful galaxy of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
There are bound to be some strange and somewhat disturbing experiments that arise with the High Evolutionary’s debut in the MCU, but whatever awaits, it’s bound to be a lot of fun for the audiences ahead, as people love a good villain.
8/13 Groot
Puberty has hit everyone’s favorite talking tree in a big way, and Groot is no longer a stroppy teenager that just wants to play video games all day. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Groot is notably taller than his design as a teenage Groot, and the much-adored Baby Groot.
Although he is not as tall as his first iteration in Guardians of the Galaxy, Groot’s appearance here signifies how quickly he grows, and that he must be hitting the tree gym, as he is rather muscular. It’s also worth noting that Groot doesn’t just use brute force, as he is seen in the trailer with plenty of pistols.
9/13 Rocket Raccoon
The appearance of Rocket Raccoon left many fans concerned for his safety in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailers. Not only do audiences see the adorable Baby Rocket Raccoon, but they also get a glimpse of what fate awaits the loud-mouthed, robotic limb-stealing animal.
It’s always great to see Rocket again, especially when he has such a foul relationship with the other Guardians of the Galaxy, and acts as the main father to Groot. Rocket is sure to get a lot of surprises in Guardians of the GalaxyVol.3, especially with Lylla involved.
10/13 Cosmo
Cosmo was seen in Guardians of the Galaxy as part of the Collector’s Museum, one of the many marvels of the Collector until the whole thing got blown up and Cosmo was freed. This character, along with a voice, is set to return for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The appearance of Cosmo will bring yet another animal into the MCU, further cementing how Guardians of the Galaxy embraces the wild side of the Marvel Universe, the side that includes Russian cosmonaut dogs with telepathic powers.
11/13 Nebula
As the adopted daughter of the now-deceased Mad Titan Thanos, Nebula has been welcomed into the family of the Guardians of the Galaxy, albeit, begrudgingly. Nebula may struggle with her anger issues, but that all stems from the fact that her father was a torturous tyrant.
Seeing Nebula again in Guardians of the GalaxyVol.3 opens up a lot of potential for her future in the series, and a hopeful reunion with her sister, Gamora. Hopefully, Nebula and Gamora can patch things up for Guardians of the GalaxyVol.3.
12/13 Kraglin
The new leader of Yondu’s crew has a lot of potential in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Especially since he’s armed with Yondu’s fin and whistling arrow. Kraglin received a well-impacting moment at Yondu’s funeral, and many are hoping to see Kraglin shine with the Guardians of the Galaxy in their third MCU movie.
There are a lot of areas to explore with Kraglin as the leader of his own Ravager crew, and a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s unknown how big his role will be, but it will surely be impactful.
13/13 Stakar Ogord’s Team
Thanks to confirmation from Slyvester Stallone, it appears that Stakar Ogord and the team will be returning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Although not appearing in the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailers, Stallone has commented on the sequel before.
The potential for Ogord and his team is ripe in the MCU, with many cosmic adventures to be had from the cast of characters, especially considering the great actors behind said roles. Hopefully, they are given more than just a cameo in this cosmic adventure.
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 will arrive in theatres on May 5, 2023.
