Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Goes All Out in Action-Packed Trailer | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources

A new preview for Jujutsu Kaisen 0 provides one last look at the prequel movie before its Japanese premiere.

The new trailer was revealed at this year's Jump Festa and shows how Yuta Okkotsu's budding romance with his childhood friend, Rika, turns into a nightmare after she suddenly passes away and her spirit transforms into a Curse, a dangerous monster that now attacks anyone who gets close to him. The trailer also previews Yuta's first meeting with the sorcerer Satoru Gojo, and also shows off some of the movie's amazing fight choreography as Yuta takes on the film's main antagonist, Suguru Geto. Many other characters from the series, including Maki Zenin and Panda, are also briefly shown. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will premiere in Japan on Dec. 24. Details about the movie's international release have yet to be announced.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 began with a manga that was originally titled "Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School," which was created by Gege Akutami in 2017. While it originally didn't carry the title, the manga was the first story set in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, and introduced many of the characters and concepts that would later be expanded upon in Akutami's 2018 series, which began publication about a year after Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School was completed. Once Jujutsu Kaisen became a hit, Akutami's original manga was renamed Jujutsu Kaisen 0 to reflect its connection to the popular manga. The prequel takes place before Yuji Itadori consumes Sukuna's finger and is introduced to the world of sorcerers and curses, but features many of the other characters from the series, including Satoru Gojo.

The movie's director, Sunghoo Park also directed the first season of MAPPA's anime adaptation. Park recently revealed that he originally wanted to cover the prequel's story in the first few episodes of the anime, but ultimately decided to begin the show the same way as Akutami's main manga series does, with the introduction of Yuji.

Jujutsu Kaisen is Weekly Shonen Jump's latest smash hit. Gege Akutami's dark-fantasy manga was the best-selling manga series of the year in Japan, moving more than 30 million copies in the last 12 months. The series just barely beat out the finale of Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer, which sold 29.5 million copies this year. Despite only being three years old, Jujutsu Kaisen has already sold a whopping 60 million copies and is on track to be only the 19th manga series in history to achieve a circulation of more than 100 million copies.
