Black Panther 2 Advance Ticket Sales Tracking Ahead Of Thor 4 - Screen Rant

Advanced ticket sales for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are so far coming in ahead of the last Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Thor: Love and Thunder. Wakanda Forever is the highly-anticipated follow-up to Ryan Coogler's Black Panther and the final movie in Phase 4. The film has had quite a road to the big screen, not only needing to be a sequel that lives up to the expectations of an Academy Award-nominated picture, but also one that works with the tragic real-life passing of star Chadwick Boseman.

The film is finally set to open in theaters, and the advance ticket sales hint that Marvel Studios might have another massive hit on their hands. According to THR, as of Sunday, November 6, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's advanced ticket sales stood at $45 million, which is more than Thor: Love and Thunder but a bit behind Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from earlier this year. THR theorizes that by Friday the total could be between $60 to $65 million in advanced ticket sales, figures that would be above the $55 million Black Panther earned in advanced ticket sales back in 2018. It later went on to a $202 million opening weekend.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be the third MCU film released in 2022 and has the potential to be the biggest opening weekend of the three. Thor: Love and Thunder opened to $144.2 million in July, and there is a good chance Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will top that. Its biggest competition will come from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which brought in $90 million on its first day and opened with $187.4 million in its opening weekend. It currently sits as the biggest opening weekend of 2022. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's tracking has it opening around $175 million, but it could go higher than that once the weekend gets underway.

It will be interesting to see if Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's opening weekend grows in comparison to the first film - which set records - or has a slight decrease on its opening weekend. Even if it doesn't hit the same high as the first Black Panther, the sequel stands a good chance of ranking among the MCU's biggest earners. While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever might be tracking behind Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in terms of advanced ticket sales, that does not factor in or account for people who are waiting to get their tickets the weekend of the film's release, or people who walk up to the ticket counter. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has the benefit of opening on a holiday weekend as November 11 coincides with Veterans Day, meaning there could be a greater increase in audience attendance that could raise the film's opening weekend numbers.

Another point worth noting is if Black Panther: Wakanda Forever outgrosses Thor: Love and Thunder's opening weekend, it has a good shot of claiming the biggest opening weekend for the month of November. The record currently belongs to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which opened to $158.1 million back in 2013. Given the massive fanbase of both the MCU and the Black Panther franchise specifically, it feels safe to say that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will take the crown as the biggest November opening of all time and possibly the biggest opening weekend of 2022.
