After four years in development, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" has finally arrived on the big screen. The highly anticipated sequel to "Black Panther" debuted exclusively in theaters on November 11.
In the new film, the heroes of Wakanda fight to keep their land safe after the death of King T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman). As the leaders strive to forge a new path, they must defend against a dangerous threat from the sea.
Though the original "Black Panther'' movie told the story of T'Challa, the late Chadwick Boseman will not make an appearance in the sequel. Boseman's role was not recast in honor of his legacy, and the movie will commemorate the actor.

Most of the star-studded cast from the first "Black Panther" reprise their roles in "Wakanda Forever," along with a few new additions. Most notably, the movie features the MCU debut of Namor (Tenoch Huerta), the ruler of an underwater kingdom.
Many characters in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" first appeared in other Marvel films, and the studio is known to drop easter eggs and direct connections to past films into their latest movies. So, it's likely that "Wakanda Forever" will follow up on storylines and character arcs that have been touched on in other Marvel titles.

'Captain America: Civil War' (2016)

In "Captain America: Civil War," the Avengers are reeling from their last battle with Ultron. The heroes are called on to fix the damage, but Iron Man and Captain America have opposing views. When the Avengers take sides, the heroes finds themselves in a civil war.
Other "Wakanda Forever" characters, like CIA Agent Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and the Wakandan Royal Guard known as the Dora Milaje, also make their first appearances in this movie.
'Black Panther' (2018)

"Black Panther" is of course a must-see before watching the sequel. The movie, which follows T'Challa's journey after he becomes King of Wakanda, is directed and co-written by Ryan Coogler. Coogler also directed and co-wrote "Wakanda Forever."
In "Black Panther," a powerful enemy surfaces and draws King T'Challa into a battle that puts Wakanda and the entire world in danger. To defeat his rivals, T'Challa must unite his allies and unleash the full powers of the Black Panther.
This movie introduces many supporting players that will have important roles in "Wakanda Forever," including Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o), Okoye (Danai Gurira), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Ramonda (Angela Bassett), and M'Baku (Winston Duke).
'Avengers: Infinity War' (2018)

T'Challa and his kingdom returned to the screen in "Avengers: Infinity War" a few months after the release of "Black Panther." The Battle of Wakanda, an epic fight between many characters from the MCU — including the Avengers, the Dora Milaje, the Outriders, the Black Order, and Thanos — takes place in the movie.
In "Avengers: Infinity War," the Avengers must battle their greatest enemy, Thanos, to stop him from collecting all six Infinity Stones.

'Avengers: Endgame' (2019)

"Avengers Endgame" finds the team holding on to survival while they try find a way to resurrect their vanquished allies. The movie features Chadwick Boseman's last big-screen appearance as T'Challa.
'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' (2021)

Ayo (Florence Kasumba), a Dora Milaje warrior from Wakanda, makes appearances in episodes three, four, and five of "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier."
She represents the Wakandan Nation in an attempt to bring Baron Zemo to justice, and becomes involved with Sam and Bucky's (Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan) mission.
"The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" is a limited series about the duo, who join forces at the end of "Avengers: Endgame," teaming up to take on a global danger. The Wakandans also play an important role in getting Sam suited up for the show's climactic battle.
Bonus pick: 'Marvel's What If...?' (2021)
Though "Marvel's What If...?" doesn't directly connect to the ongoing storyline in the "Black Panther" movies, it does feature appearances by alternate versions of many of the franchise's heroes and villains.
The animated Disney Plus show focuses on parallel worlds across the multiverse, which depict fun "what if" scenarios related to key plotlines. Episodes two, five, six, and nine feature the voice of Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, while episodes six and nine also feature the voice of Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, the villain from the first "Black Panther" movie.
Though not essential viewing for fans looking to catch up on plot threads that could inform "Wakanda Forever," these episodes of "What If...?" offer an interesting new take on characters from the "Black Panther" series.
