  • Instagram viewers have responded with an outpour of praise for the tourist

A young tourist has captured hearts world-wide for a random act of kindness on the streets of Bali, Indonesia.

In an Instagram video posted to travel account Balilivin, a man can be seen helping an elderly local woman as she struggles to carry a basket of goods balanced on her head.

The local account praised the man's 'kindness': 'Pay respect to this man's kindness. Thank you for your help mister!⁣'.

In the video, the woman can be seen pointing out the direction of travel to the young man as cars and scooters whizz by on the road next to them.

The feel-good clip has gained more than 5,400 likes and 100 comments.

Instagram users have responded with an outpouring of admiration for the selfless tourist.

'I was there at that time and directly saw it and I'm touched,' one user said.

'Helping a balinese is giving back what they give to us all the time,' another said.

Many other users commented with the word 'respect' or multiple heart and prayer-hands emojis.

The Balinese tourism industry is slowly recovering after the COVID-19 pandemic caused global lockdowns and travel restrictions.

Bali has long been a popular holiday destination for Aussies, who make up a quarter of all tourists to the island each year.

However, Indonesian authorities earlier this month announced a crackdown on troublemaking Australian tourists after a string of social media videos surfaced showing foreigners engaging in reckless behaviour.

Tourists deported from Bali are typically banned from re-entering the island or anywhere in Indonesia for six months or potentially longer.
